Anti Phospholipid Syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system starts producing Anti Phospholipid Antibodies which attack the healthy cells of the body. These antibodies can cause blood clots to form in arteries and veins.
Blood clots can form in the legs causing Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Blood clots can also form in the lungs and other organs, such as the kidneys and spleen. The clots can lead to heart attack, stroke and other conditions. During pregnancy antiphospholipid syndrome can result in miscarriage and stillbirth. Some people who have the syndrome have no signs or symptoms.
Antiphospholipid syndrome is more common in women than in men. Having another autoimmune condition, such as lupus, increases the risk of antiphospholipid syndrome.

Anti Phospholipid Antibody IgG & IgM test is done to measure the presence of these antibodies in the blood which attack the phospholipids which are responsible for blood clotting. If the value of these antibodies is higher it signifies the presence of Antiphospholipid Syndrome. If the result of this test comes out positive then there is no treatment available for curing the disease. The doctor provides treatment for managing the symptoms and gives medications which would prevent the clotting of the blood.
The APL test is a simple blood test with overnight fasting before the test. The blood sample can be taken by the phlebotomist at a pathology lab or at home. at Maurya Labs the test is done on Fully Automatic Siemens Immulite 1000 from Germany. The sample collection takes less than a minute and the report is given on the same day.

What is APLA Test ?
Antiphospholipid antibodies (APL) IgG are the antibodies directed against phospholipids responsible for blood clotting. This test is to check for the presence of APL that cause abnormal blood clotting and their presence is an indication of an autoimmune disorder called Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS).
This blood test checks for antiphospholipid antibodies. These may be found in people with abnormal tendency of blood clot formation or autoimmune diseases.
When is APLA Test done ?
A doctor uses an APL test if a patient experiences frequent miscarriages and shows signs of unusual blood clots, or has a past or family history of autoimmune diseases or cancer. It is also used to diagnose antiphospholipid syndrome, a medical condition where the immune system attacks the phospholipids in your body, causing the formation of blood clots.
