Our blood contains a protein called ‘Hemoglobin’ or Hgb. Hemoglobin present in the blood is responsible for carrying oxygen and delivering it to various body organs.Hemoglobin electrophoresis test is designed to identify and measure different types of Hemoglobin that can be found in one’s blood. Mutations in the hemoglobin can cause the body to produce faulty or abnormal hemoglobin. The faulty or abnormal hemoglobin is unable to carry oxygen at normal levels. This can lead to decreased levels of oxygen reaching the tissues and organs of the body.

CBC Test is done to detect health disorders ranging from different types of anemia, infections, fever, inflammation and cancers. If you have any kind of infection then you will see an increase in your White Blood Cells or WBC count. Similarly a very common type of fever known as Dengue Fever will show a reduced number of platelets.

It helps to evaluate the presence of abnormal hemoglobin types which can reduce the oxygen carrying capacity of blood. It can also be used to rule out blood disorders and genetic disorders.

No HPCL and Hemoglobin electrophoresis are not the same test. HPCL, also called High-performance chromatography test, is used to screen thalassemia and other blood diseases. The hemoglobin electrophoresis, on the other hand, offers a complete and more comprehensive breakdown of the hemoglobin in the test results.
